Run for the community by the community

From our village hall location we operate a pre-school for the over 2’s, five days a week. This provides a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment designed to enable children to flourish.

Our close relationship with Great Bedwyn and St Katharine’s Primary Schools helps ease the transition between home and school and ensures that children leave our setting prepared for and ready to start school with confidence.

We are a charity and have no ambition to make a profit – simply to provide a best in class pre-school education – and a lot of fun for the kids!

Learn through play

We strive to provide a secure and reassuring environment where children can learn, experiment and play. Each day there are exciting new activities on offer, with each session carefully co-ordinated and imaginatively planned. All our activities are guided by the principles set down in the Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Each term we have a different topic which we incorporate into both our free flow play time and our more structured activities.

Healthy eating

We understand the importance of good nutrition in these crucial pre school years and take great care to both provide healthy snacks and model good eating behaviours. Children are required to bring their own packed lunch and we encourage parents to make these as healthy and balanced as possible. All being mums ourselves we also understand how difficult it can be to provide varied and nutritious cold food (that is not immediately rejected). If you are in need of inspiration please feel free to ask!

Updating parents

Each child is allocated an individual member of staff who acts as the main point of contact for parents. This Key Person is on hand for parents to discuss any concerns or questions regarding their child’s development. We also use a secure, industry recognised online system to share day to day milestones / achievement / funny moments with parents and extended family. This has proved hugely popular since its introduction, helping to maintain the all important dialogue between staff and parents

Voluntary committee

A voluntary committee of parents and carers, elected annually, is responsible for the overall management and helps ensure we are responsive to the needs of the community we serve. We owe much of our success to the support of parents and welcome their participation. Once your child is settled you are invited to visit as a parent helper. We are proud to be continuing the tradition of having a community pre-school that caters for the needs of local families and do hope you will think about becoming involved.

Outdoor time

The benefits of the great outdoors on children (and adults alike) are well documented. At the Great Bedwyn Village Hall we have the benefit of a large secure playground with climbing frames, bike tracks, sandpit and playhouses, as well as a well tended garden area complete with bug houses, vegetable beds and the all important mud kitchen! Next door to the hall is the village cricket pitch – scene of many a treasure hunt, sponsored walk and animal encounter.

Dedicated staff

We are very lucky to have highly dedicated, experienced and qualified staff who all live locally and believe passionately in what they do. Michelle Edwards, our Manager is responsible for providing safe, high quality care and education for our children. She leads a team of supervisors and pre-school assistants – all level 3 NVQ trained. Clair Wilkinson, our administrator keeps you up to date with what’s happening and is there to answer any queries you may have.

We’re PASSIONATE about the welfare and development of every child in our care
